BAM’s Longtime Curator of Art, Sandy Harthorn, Announces Retirement

BOISE, ID — Sandy Harthorn, BAM’s Curator of Art, has announced that she will retire from the Boise Art Museum effective January 1, 2016.  Harthorn began her career at the Boise Art Museum as a volunteer in 1976 and became a full-time employee in 1980.  Over the last 39 years, her career included organizing more than 400 exhibitions and overseeing the production of 45 Museum catalogues and publications.  During that time, she also helped to develop the Museum’s Permanent Collection, which has grown from 350 to more than 3,500 objects during her tenure.  Melanie Fales, Executive Director shared, “Sandy’s curatorial vision and ability to identify artists on the brink of success have been hallmarks of her strengths that built the Museum’s outstanding reputation in the local, regional and national community.  We are grateful to Sandy for her dedication to the Museum for almost four decades, and we will miss her.”

A celebration will be scheduled later in the year to wish Sandy well.  Details will be available on BAM’s website at www.boiseartmuseum.org.
