Pre-Scheduled Docent-Led Tour Checklist
Before the Tour
— Do the Pre-Visit Activity: ART TALK.
— Go over Museum Manners with your students and chaperons.
— Preview the exhibition with the Free Teacher Preview Pass included in this packet.
— Make students large nametags with their first names only.
— Divide your class into two groups (of approximately 15 students) for their tour.
— Provide one chaperon to supervise each group of 15 students. A maximum of four (4) adult chaperons per scheduled group of thirty students is allowed. Thirty students and four adults are admitted at rear education entrance free of charge. Additional adults pay regular admission and are considered independent visitors apart from the school tour. (Often teachers split the admission among all adults to cover the cost. Schools or individuals may pay for the additional adults.) Due to space limitations, artwork safety and quality of the educational experience, a maximum of 4 adults may accompany the group of 30 during the tour. $5 General Admission; $3 Seniors (62+) and full-time college student admission.
At the Museum
— Arrive at the rear Education Entrance no more than 5 minutes before your scheduled time. Your docents will let you into the Museum when they are ready to begin the tour. Please do not ring the delivery buzzer.
— Remember that your chaperons’ interest and attention adds to your students’ tour experience. Chaperons have a serious responsibility; therefore, we ask them not to bring babies and younger children with them as this diverts their attention from the group. Due to the number of students we serve and the cost of materials, we cannot offer chaperons the opportunity to create their own projects.
— Remember that the tour is designed to be interactive and to encourage student participation. If the adults have responses to the docent’s questions, please ask them to be sensitive so they complement the students’ ideas and do not overshadow them.
After the Tour
— Please fill out the evaluation card that you will receive from your tour guides. Your comments are important in helping us tailor our programs to suit your needs.
— Do the enclosed Make It! activity.
— Before or after the tour, consider using related ideas listed in Curricular Connections to connect the tour to your classroom curricula.
Thank you for participating in your pre-scheduled docent-led tour!
