Pre-Scheduled Docent-Led Tour Details
NUMBER OF CHAPERONS
One adult chaperon per fifteen students is required. A maximum of four (4) adult chaperons per scheduled group of thirty students is allowed. Thirty students and four adults are admitted at rear education entrance free of charge.
CHAPERON ADMISSION COST
Additional adults pay regular admission and are considered independent visitors apart from the school tour. (Often teachers split the admission among all adults to cover the cost. Schools or individuals may pay for the additional adults.) Due to space limitations, artwork safety and quality of the educational experience, a maximum of 4 adults may accompany the group of 30 during the tour. General admission is $5; admission for seniors (62+) and full-time college students is $3.
CHAPERON RESPONSIBILITIES
— Chaperons are responsible for supervising groups and making sure they follow the Museum rules.
— Chaperons must accompany their groups at all times while they are touring the Museum. Your chaperons’ interest and attention adds to your students’ tour experience.
— Chaperons are asked not to bring infants or younger children with them as this diverts their attention from the group.
— Chaperons are asked to assist the students and continue to supervise while in the studios. Due to the number of students we serve and the cost of materials, we cannot offer chaperons the opportunity to create their own projects.>
EDUCATION ENTRANCE
A docent will meet you at the rear Education Entrance facing Julia Davis Park and the Rose Garden. Please do not enter through the front of the museum.
THE TOUR
— Students will be guided through a themed tour of one exhibition. They will not have time to see every object in the exhibition or the entire museum on this visit. They will be given free return passes so that they may come back with two guests to view all the works on display.
— Your group will be at the Museum for 90 minutes. (60 minutes for Kindergarten and 1st grade.)
— Students will spend approximately three-quarters of the time viewing and talking about the exhibition with their tour guide and approximately one-quarter of the time in the studios creating their own artwork.
EVALUATION CARD
Please fill out the evaluation card that you receive from your tour guides. Your constructive criticism helps us continue to tailor our programs to suit your needs.
LUNCH
The Museum has no indoor or outdoor lunch facilities. Tour groups may bring their lunches and enjoy Julia Davis Park. Please have your group clean up after themselves.
PREPARE FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITIES
Consider doing the enclosed Make It! activity after the tour or later in the week. Before or after the tour, consider using related ideas listed in Curricular Connections or finding other meaningful ways to connect the tour to your curricula.
