A Fine Pairing of Wine and Art

This special marriage of wine and art can be yours if the price is right!  Fraser Vineyards offers this spectacular example of Idaho Cabernet in a beautifully etched 5-liter bottle.  The bad news is that 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon has been sold out due to its popularity.  The good news is that there are 5 liters of it here tonight for you to enjoy! 

The etched bottle and its contents are just one part of this auction lot.  The other is an original, framed piece created by local artist  Cheryl Shurtleff.  The original drawing is also what is etched onto the bottle.  The drawing of a comet is from a series of small landscape drawings that the artist has been doing over the past decade.  The comet, Hyakutake, appeared above the Boise foothills in 1996.  Cheryl drove up into the foothills in the middle of the night to get a good look.  The drawing is done in graphite on Bristol paper.

A very rare assortment of 1997 vintage Cabernets, Chardonnays, Zinfandels,Blends and more.  The 1997 vintage was a great growing season and produced classic wines, many of which are presented in this fantastic collection.  The vintage was marked by warm, dry weather that matured the grapes early.  The 1997 vintage was also the largest crop in California history.  Nature was smiling on Napa and Sonoma that year, and, this year, the wines will make you smile!

This is a small sampling of the best the 90’s had to offer, plus a special bonus bottle.  Eleven fine wines from the Napa and Sonoma growing regions all from the Vintage of the Decade, 1997.  We found eleven of these gems and round out the full case with one bottle of 2000 BV Tapestry, a gem in itself!

One Big Far Niente Chardonnay!
Take this 5-liter bottle of Far Niente Chardonnay home tonight and make plans with friends this Summer or over the holidays to enjoy one of California’s finest Chardonnays from one of California’s finest wineries.  The 1996 harvest required patience due to periods of warm weather followed by cooling.  The hand-harvested grapes were brought to the winery in small bins and then sorted by hand to assure the finest quality.  This 1996 Chardonnay is a classically structured wine that is both lush and round on the palate while displaying the typical intensity of fruit and spicy oak aromas that have become synonymous with Far Niente Chardonnay.  Our donor, Bill Deasy, stored this wine properly in a cool and dark cellar for you to enjoy!

It’s already on ice and ready for you to enjoy with your friends tonight.  Bid high on this special donation of Roederer Estate Brut from California’s Anderson Valley.  With 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, this Brut is elegant and crisp with complex pear, spice and hazelnut flavors.  It is fresh and fruity with great finesse and depth of flavor.  Enjoy it tonight, or, take home for a special occasion!

Three Magnificent Magnums
Our friends from JW Thornton offer these three fine wines in magnum formats.  First, the ultimate California Merlot from Duckhorn Vineyards.  This 2006 Napa Valley Merlot captures the balanced character of young wine, while embodying the diversity of the entire Napa Valley appellation.  A standout Merlot, this wine offers a rich texture, ripe tannins and seamlessly integrated French oak.  Also included in this auction lot is a magnum of 2006 Figge Cellars Syrah.  With deep ruby color and ripe black fruit, this wine clearly will emerge with more time in the bottle.  Figge Cellars is on the verge of becoming a California cult wine with very limited production.  We are lucky to have this fine donation presented in tonight’s live auction.  Finally, heading across the pond, the third magnum in this auction lot is the 2005 Chateau Bellevue Lussac St. Emilion.  Chateau Bellevue vineyards are located around a hilltop of hard rock, on one of the slopes of St. Emilion.  At their summit on the chalk plateau, the neighbors include the Premier Grand Cru Classes.  The diversity of soils and their variety of terroirs all contribute to the complexity and the nobility of the wines produced by Chateau Bellevue.
