BAM’s Summer Teacher Institutes focus on integrating art into classroom curricula, building teacher knowledge and skills in the studio, and experimenting with hands-on, learner-centered facilitation. Investigate artwork in the Museum and create art in the studios. Collaborate with teachers across subject and grade levels. Design projects and materials for use in your own teaching environment inspired by BAM’s current exhibitions. Participants can anticipate daily art-making projects and gallery activities at BAM, paired with articles, videos, and individual projects to be completed at home.

Register for two optional Boise State or Northwest Nazarene professional development credits.

At a time when everyone is seeking restoration and solace, this Teacher Institute aims to provide teachers with the tools to be able to rely on art as a source of relaxation, self-care, and student support. Hands-on experiences, meaningful discussions, mindful creativity exercises, and inspiring artwork will rejuvenate you and help spark joy in your classroom.

Teachers will explore BAM’s current exhibitions, including: Felix Gonzales-Torres: “Untitled” (L.A.); Everyday Objects: The Enduring Appeal of Still Life; Stephen Towns: Declaration and Resistance and more!

Monday-Friday
9:00 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. (hybrid course | a.m. at BAM, p.m. remote)

Cost: $95 (includes supplies)

Instructor: Drew Williams
Drew Williams is an Instructional Coach at Lone Star Middle School in the Nampa School District and has worked in education for more than ten years. Her teaching experiences include art, digital photography, and yearbook. Drew has a Master’s degree in Art Education from Boise State University. Prior to teaching middle school, Drew was the Associate Curator of Education at Boise Art Museum. She is passionate about creative, personalized, and accessible learning experiences.

Participants will be able to register for two optional Boise State or Northwest Nazarene professional development credits.

Registration is final. No refunds will be granted unless the class is canceled due to local, state, or national closure requirements.

Boise Art Museum continues to monitor state, national, and local COVID-19 guidelines and mandates. While masks are not required today, all participants and BAM staff may be asked to wear masks for the duration of the Teacher Institute, depending on current CDC requirements.

Educator Evening
The Boise Art Museum offers special evening events for BAM Educator Members. Educator Evenings are a great opportunity for professional educators to preview tours, participate in hands-on projects and demonstrations, review audio/visual loan materials, socialize and gather resources for the classroom.

Educator Memberships
Full time educators qualify for a BAM Affiliate Individual Membership at $35/year.
