Volunteer Opportunities

Boise Art Museum offers several volunteer opportunities for teenagers 14 – 19 years of age. This is a great way to fulfill community service requirements and to learn more about art.

  • Teen Volunteers assist with classes and camps for children during the summer.
  • The Teen Corps is for students 14-19 years of age who are interested in developing leadership skills and learning more about careers in art and museums while fulfilling community service requirements. Teen Corps members help organize Teen Night and volunteer at family and public programs.

WHAT IS THE TEEN CORPS?

Boise Art Museum’s Teen Corps is comprised of teens from around the Treasure Valley who are interested in art, who enjoy volunteering, and who want to participate in programs for all ages at BAM. Teen Corps members participate in monthly meetings with Education Department staff, help organize and set-up Teen Night, assist with children’s classes, camps and family programs, and help with special events at BAM.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Teens between the ages of 14 and 19 years old who agree to participate in monthly meetings and events.

WHAT SKILLS DO MEMBERS GAIN?

Teen Corps members gain valuable leadership experience, work alongside professional Museum staff and learn more about visual art, education, museums and non-profit organizations.

ARE THERE ANY REQUIREMENTS?

Teen Corps members play an important volunteer role in BAM’s Education Department and must fulfill a specific set of requirements to be considered a member of the corps. These requirements for participation in the Teen Corps are listed below.

WHAT IF I JUST WANT TO VOLUNTEER FOR THE SUMMER?

Teen Volunteers are an important part of BAM’s summer schedule of camps and classes for children. Teens can volunteer for summer programs by attending a summer orientation session in June and committing to a week-long schedule. Priority in the summer volunteer schedule is given to Teen Corps members, due to their familiarity with BAM’s programs and procedures.

BAM docents are volunteers at the Boise Art Museum who engage visitors of all ages with art through a variety of educational experiences.

The core function of BAM docents is facilitating BAM’s Free School Tour Program by providing guided tours for pre-school, elementary, junior high, and high school students. Docents also play a role during monthly programs, sharing information about BAM’s collections and exhibitions with visitors.

Docent training sessions cover specific information about BAM’s collections and exhibitions, as well as Museum philosophies, best practices, teaching methods, and tour techniques. BAM’s active docent training program engages volunteers in the learning process and cultivates knowledgeable, experienced volunteers.

All docent training sessions are held on Mondays from 9:30 a.m.—11:30 a.m., late August through May.
