CLASSES FOR ADULTS

BAM’s studio art program encourages the creative abilities of all participants by offering experiences in a variety of art media which provide opportunities for making connections with BAM’s exhibitions. Through reputable artists and educators, we provide quality instruction for all ages in a small-class, non-competitive and enjoyable atmosphere.  Class size is limited to optimize learning.  Participants must pre-register to reserve a space as class size is limited.  Please dress for mess!

Watercolor Open Studio

Explore watercolor painting with the Boise Art Museum. BAM’s open studio format combines basic techniques for beginners, refreshers for dabbling artists and helpful hints and tips for seasoned painters.  No prior drawing or painting experience is necessary. Workshop: Introduction to Illuminated Pages

$55 ($70 non-members) Pre-registration deadline: Wednesday, May 16, 2018 Workshop fee includes all materials for use during class.
Work directly with artist and calligrapher Suzann Swenson and the Idaho Inkspots Calligraphy Guild to learn more about historic techniques used in illuminated manuscripts as well as contemporary processes and applications. After exploring the pages of the Heritage Edition of The Saint John’s Bible, participants will practice creating an illuminated letter using traditional materials such as 23K gold leaf and opaque watercolor. Artist Workshop: Printmaking

Work directly with printmaker and designer Caitlin Harris who will lead participants through two printmaking processes from the initial design to the final print. EXPERIENCES FOR CHILDREN

BAM Full-Day Camps for Children

Add excitement to your child’s Spring Break or summer with a fun-filled day or week of art experiences. Camp is limited to 20 students for individualized attention and safety. Students should dress for messy activities and wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather. Bring a sack lunch, drink and water bottle each day. A Medical Information Card for each student will be mailed when the registration form is received. The student may attend only after the form has been completed, signed and returned to BAM. Children are required to be checked in and out of classes and camps at BAM by a parent or guardian each day.

Park Explorers w/ Zoo Boise & Boise Public Library | June 18-22, 2018 | Ages 7 – 12

June 18-22, 2018 | 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Be an active explorer of artwork, animal wildlife, and culture! This camp highlights fun activities at cultural institutions in and around Julia Davis Park.  Students will have a chance to learn more about each organization through hands-on activities and interactive experiences. Each day will be spent discovering a new topic with the Boise Art Museum, Zoo Boise, and Boise Public Library. Participants will begin and end each day at the Boise Art Museum. (BAM and Zoo Boise members may receive the discounted member rate for this camp. Please indicate institution membership on registration form.)

Amazing Makers | July 16-20, 2018 | Ages 7 – 12

Between sculpting art that shines and making the most out of mud, campers will explore the many materials artists use to create. Participants will spend each day discovering the possibilities of different artistic media, such as wood, clay, ink, glass, and more.

Elements of Nature w/ Zoo Boise | August 6-10, 2018 | Ages 7 – 12

August 6-10, 2018 | 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Take art and nature back to its basics! BAM’s exhibition Consider the Source will inspire wildlife exploration and art making in this week-long camp. Students will experiment with natural materials, such as wood, paper, and clay, to create works of art based on animals, habitats, and the environment. Mornings will be spent at Zoo Boise and afternoons will be spent at the Boise Art Museum. (BAM and Zoo Boise members may receive the discounted member rate for this camp. Children are required to be checked in and out of classes and camps at BAM by a parent or guardian each day.
Offered for students ages 4-12
Within each class, students are grouped by age to provide individualized instruction and attention.

Longer than a class, but not an all-day experience, this unique "mini" camp is offered especially for younger students ready for their first BAM Art Camp! Camp participants will discover ceramics, drawings, sculptures, and other artwork from BAM's current exhibitions.
